Youtubing in Ed tech!

So I think, so far, I have posted on absolutely everything I know about slideshows. However, Something I am excited to do in ed tech is youtube videos! I've always wanted to make youtube videos but don't know how to! Really excited to do this! :)

Compare and Contrast Word and Pages App

For my second slideshow, which I made on Google Slides, I compared and contrasted Microsoft Word and the Pages App. Over all my presentation told the facts about both of the products, and I tried not to make it biased so that the audience viewing it could decide. Overall, however, Microsoft Word has more options than the pages app and has better photo editing tools than pages has. On the other hand, Pages is an app and and it has a variety of options and does almost everything that Microsoft word does in different ways.

Slideshow Learning

I've done quite a few slideshows before, but I have learned now how to organize my slideshows in a better way, have effective transitions, and how to not over or under write on a presentation. In addition, I have for the first time used google slides which I have found similar to word, but it is easier to share with other people and you can comment on each others slides.

What should we learn about in Ed Tech?

There are so many things we could do with technology! Here are somethings I think would be fun to do!

- Youtube Channel
- Make a textbook on Ipad
- Screen Videos
- Selling things online
- Make a class website ( Divide a page of the site to each person to work on and then put it together into a site!)
- Photo shop stuff
- Music Videos

Google Slides

Last class, we started working on google slides to make presentations on comparing different word processors. I have learned that google slides is quite similar to powerpoint and some more. It has different templates than powerpoint and some cool transitions, however, I feel like google slides lacks variety. It has only 5 transitions, though different than Powerpoint's, and there are only a few slide layouts, where as Powerpoint has many. In my opinion, Google slides is a good alternative but if you want to maximum amount of options, Powerpoint is the way to go.

Learning Reflection

I have learned so much in Ed Tech so far. I really thought that I knew that everything that there was to word processing, but I clearly didn't! Now that we have done word processing it has helped me in doing our slideshows. For example: Keeping my slideshow organized, and using tables to hold pictures and information. Some things that I will have to work on is presenting. Having more eye contact and maybe having the slideshow timed, so I don't have to bend down for every animation. Since I am taking speech and debate, it should help me. Also, maybe I could try making it on my iPad? That might let me hold my ipad in my hand while I am presenting, rather than bending down at a computer.

PDF Splicer

I was having trouble with random page breaks forming in my documents, and if I deleted them the formatting of my document would get messed up. I also had trouble making my magazine one document, as I made a new document for every page. To make the documents into one, I found PDF Splicer. PDF Splicer is an app for iPad that allows you to delete seperate pages, move, and rearrange documents that have been saved as a PDF. This allowed me to make my seperate documents into 1 and it allowed me to take out the unwanted page breaks in my planner. The only downfall is that they insert a 1 page ad at the beginning of your document. However, if you are printing it shouldn't be a problem, and if you don't want the ads at all, you can pay a fairly low price to get them off.

Update on Ed Tech Learning

So I haven't posted in a while, since we have had so many breaks in school, but here are things I have learned since the last time I posted.

November 5-8: I worked on my planner, which is part of the word processing challenge artifacts. I found this to be incredibly tedious and time consuming. Though it wasn't very hard, I did a weekly planner for the entire year (November - November). In the process I had to copy and paste my planner on 52 seperate pages, and change the dates to go in order. I also had to change the week heading. This took me about 4 hours total. Next time, I think I will go with a monthly planner. :)

November 9-14: I worked on my report on the pages app of my iPad! I found the report fun to do by adding many pictures, charts and small explanations throughout. Pages has many cool picture formatting options which I enjoyed playing with.

In class, we all made forms so we can evaluate each others blogs. Here I found that you cannot make a hyperlink in forms, and that its difficult to organize an evaluation for so many artifacts. However, there are at least two ways :)

At home I have been working on finishing evaluations.

Making a Magazine with Pages!

I have learned two things since last class.... Don't leave half of you magazine to be done the night before class, and that making a magazine on the Pages app for iPad is super cool. I learned a bunch of new pages that I never even knew about. The most I had ever used the app for was typing an essay. Now I have learned how to make pictures transparent and set backgrounds on documents. I also learned how to set page numbers and how to insert textboxes that I can move around as I need. I don't think my magazine could look as cool as it does without the Pages app. :)

Singularity Project!

So, I taught my sister how to start a blog! Since she didn't know anything about blogs to start with it was really easy to double her knowledge. I asked her to put a post on her blog on what she has learned. She has a picture and two posts and a gadget up. I also helped her with privacy settings. Ed tech learning!

Wow, word processing has really been a challenge, the biggest challenge I have completed was surprisingly the buisness card. For homework, I completed my pamphlet. This was easy yet I did run into a few difficulties which I had to find out how to solve. Also, I started my magazine which I decided to attempt to do on my iPad on the Pages word processing app. This at first went really well, but I have run into some problems which I cannot figure out. Hopefully something will work! :)

Word processing learning!

At the beginning of the year, I thought that I knew everything there is to know about Microsoft word. Boy was I wrong. I found it incredibly challenging make a business card and invitation from scratch. One thing I never knew was even possible was to resize the page, which I still haven't quite figured out to work with my business card. However I did manage to make my buisness card using a picture, editing it so that it so that it didn't even look like it self anymore, and inserting text box and shapes. This word processing section of Ed tech sure is going to challenge me more than I originally thought.

New Tech Learning

Something new I have learned in tech is how to find templates for google spreadsheets. There are a variety of templates that range from budgets to schedules and a lot more. You can do pretty much anything with the if you know how. Knowing how is the step I am in right now. I know what I want to do and I tried to find a way to do it but I have pretty much no experiene with spreadsheets. Hoping that I will be able to figure it out in class.

How to Duplicate a Spread Sheet

The newest thing I have learned on spread sheets is that if you want to duplicate someone's spreadsheet. All you have to do is hit File at the top of google docs, click "Make a Copy" and re title it as your own spreadsheet. Then you can move it into the HS logs folder! :)

What I learned in Ed tech on 10/11

Something new that I have learned in Ed Tech last class was how to move a chart from one spread sheet to another. This was a bit difficult, because I wanted to move all of the data so that I could edit right on the other spread sheet. Instead I had to save my chart as an image and move it to the other spread sheet.

Ed Tech Learning!

Something new I have learned is how to make a chart on spread sheet and how to post it on my blog! It was a bit confusing at first because I would click that I wanted to use a certain example chart and then a page would pop-up with a completely different chart. I later learned that it was a whole spread sheet with sheets on it that had different charts where I could find the one I wanted and fill it in.

Applying RHL Character Traits in Ed Tech

For the past few years, RHL has been having character traits of the month. The first character trait this year for the month of September is attentiveness. I have tried to apply this character trait by paying attention in class and not having to ask twice about something that was already told, and by doing my making sure I hear what the homework is and when it is due. Here are some ways I plan to apply the other character traits throughout the year.

October- Determination: I am determined to help others when they need help on the computers and to help even while I am at home by communicating with people through comments or email. In addition, I am determined to find a way for absolutely all of the homework.

November- Thoroughness: I plan to be thorough in my work and do it to the best of my ability. I'm not going to give 100%, I'm going to give 200%. My posts will be thorough an not just barely making it.

December- Compassion: I plan to help out others who are having trouble and encourage them if they are having a rough time with tech.

January- Wisdom: I plan to make wise choices in what I do. Such as getting everything done in tech that was assigned rather than doing other things on the computer. I also plan to share whatever wisdom I have about technology with someone else who has different wisdom than me about technology.

February- Deference: I plan to be respectful to others and listen to them and their point of view and be open minded about their blogs and posts.

March- Availability: I plan to make my self available to others so that I can help them if I can instead of being occupied with things that aren't what I'm required to do.

April- Thriftiness: I plan to spend my time wisely and not waste it by doing other things such as talking a bunch. Instead I will finish everything assigned and more.

May- Persuasiveness: I plan to be persuasvie by encouraging people to share their work to others and persuade them that there work is as AMAZING as it really probably is if they don't think so.

All these traits I will try to apply throughout the year in ed tech as well as outside of that class and school.

Spreadsheet Learning

One of the newest things I have learned in Ed Tech is how to work with spreadsheets, just since last class, I have learned how to add sheets to you spreadsheet and merge cells in a column in order to create a gradebook like look.

A Foreign Food Blog

When Mr.A gave the assignment to search for a foreign blog, I knew that I was going to search for something in Romania, as my family is Romanian and I can read some. One thing that Romania is known for is there delicious food! So i decided to search Romanian food recipies under blogs on google. I have found that if you want to find a blog written in a different language, your best chance to find something is to search it in that different language. The Blog I found is called "Pusik's Blog- Rete simple si gustoase" Which means easy and delicious recipies. There are a variety of recipies on this website that are some of my favorites. So if you want to, check it out, translate, and cook up some delicious and easy Romanian food. Recently I have learned that you can do almost anything with a spread sheet and on a google spread sheet you can have the computer average numbers in columns for you, so we don't have to do it by hand :)

Recently in class we made a live spread sheet/surey that works, which is one new thing I learned. Also, I found that I didn't do my spreadsheet right at first, I didn't put it in the right folder and it didn't get shared with everyone. In addition, I have learned how to post a live webpage on my blog!

5 new things I have learned on blogger

When we first started using blogger in class I didn't even have a clue what blogger was. Now, I have become more familiar with it. Here are 5 amazing things I have learned about blogger since the first day of the school year.

1. I have learned how to subscribe to other peoples blogs. I thought I was doing it right at home, until I got to class.
2. I have also learned how to format my posts. Such as, changing fonts, changing font sizes, font color, adding bulleted lists, etc.
3. Another thing I have learned is how to add gadgets to my blog. There are a bunch of gadgets to choose from like a clock, calculators, and even a fish tank.
4. I have also learned how to add a video and picture to my blogger posts.
5. Finally, I have learned how to set up a blogger account. I wouldn't have known how to do this before this class.

You can speak your homework!

Yesterday, I was trying to do my Speech and Debate homework on my iPad, and knew that it would take me a little longer than usual since it's a bit harder to type on the iPad. However, I found a really neat and efficient way to do my homework with only using my voice and one key on the keyboard. The iPad has a voice dictation feature that enables you, when you have Internet access, to just hit a button and speak what you would like to speak. Now, you may think is is inefficient because you can't add punctuation, however, all you have to do is speak in what punctuation you want inserted. For example, you can speak, "I love creamy comma milk chocolate." and it will appear as "I love creamy, milk chocolate." so if you have an iPad, try voice dictation if typing is a hassle for you. This tool really helped me! :)

iPhone 5 is out!

So, I was searching Apple for this assignment and I found out that iPhone 5 came out yesterday! :) It has a bigger screen, an even nicer screen resolution, it's thinner and lighter, has the ability to have 4g LTE, and so much more. What I Know and What I Want to Know

What I know about technology

Some things I know about in technology include working with Word, PowerPoint, going on the Internet, and using Facebook. I have also worked some with iMovie. In addition, I have taken the web design class that has been offered at RHL so I know a little bit about making web pages, though for some reason computers never seemed to cooperate with me in that class.

 

What I want to learn about in technology this year

This year I would like to get to explore a bit more with making web pages so that it can become easier for me. In web design I was able to create web pages, but it was quite difficult and there always seemed to be a glitch with my page that no one could figure out. Also, it would be cool to get to learn about different technology that I can use to help me with my homework.
